Demetrius Billups
Executive Director
Demetrius Billups is the Executive Director and also a founding member of Empowered Health Equity Alabama. EHEAL’s innovative initiatives are changing the way health services are accessible to black communities, which is vital in promoting excellent sexual health and education.
In 2022 Demetrius began transitioning from an IT Director to what he considers to be an even greater fundamentally fulfilling career in Public Health. Demetrius is no stranger to serving others as this operates parallel to his lineage.
Demetrius is a graduate of Samford University and has completed a successful career of Thirty Three years in Information Technology. The last Twenty of those years were in the healthcare industry supporting an array of technical teams, various medical staff, patients and clients. Demetrius was often told he cared too much to be in Information Technology. Well, he listened and is now in Public Health!
Demetrius and EHEAL employees alike share direct links to HIV and the community, generating an excellent passion to serve. Demetrius is deeply driven by being in service of anyone whose path has been disrupted by social and economic disparities.

Derrick Stevenson
Tech Lead
Derrick is an advocate and leader in the field of public health, serving as the Director of
Prevention at Empowered Health Equity Alabama (EHEAL), an organization committed
to combatting HIV and STIs through comprehensive prevention strategies. Armed with a
passion for improving sexual health outcomes and a wealth of experience, Derrick
spearheads innovative initiatives aimed at reducing the incidence of HIV and STIs in
underserved communities.

At EHEAL, Derrick has implemented groundbreaking holistic healthcare programs,
emphasizing regular comprehensive HIV and STI testing options both in-office and
through self-testing methods. He has also developed a cutting-edge platform to provide
accessible access to HIV and STI results, leveraging technology to enhance
communication and engagement with community members. Derrick's multifaceted
approach to prevention extends beyond testing, incorporating educational outreach and
the distribution of prevention materials to empower individuals with knowledge and
resources.
